Of the stores opened so far, two are in Cork with the others in Naas, Donaghmede, and Athy. The remaining four scheduled to open over the coming weeks include further locations in Cork, Arklow, Galway, and Tipperary, and will bring the number of independently owned 3Stores nationwide to 28.

The latest 3Store to open is in Ballincollig, Co Cork, and is independently owned by Crona Byrne, daughter of Gay Byrne, and her partner Philip Carney.

Ms Byrne said she was looking forwarded to offering employment in the town. “Ballincollig is a great and prosperous town and is one of the fastest developing towns in the country. It’s fantastic to have the backing and full support of a brand like Three to not only create jobs for the locality, but to bring more choice to the town.”

Since launching in Ireland in 2005, Three, owned by Hutchison Whampoa, has invested over €5m in expanding its retail footprint, over €500,000 of which has been invested in these independently owned stores.

Head of sales Simon Jones said: “In challenging economic times Three continues to demonstrate its commitment and dedication to the Irish market.”
