McDonald’s 82nd Irish restaurant delivers 70 jobs in north Dublin

McDonald’s Restaurants of Ireland officially opened its new restaurant in Charlestown yesterday, creating 70 jobs in north Dublin.

Managing director of McDonald’s Ireland, Adrian Crean, said the opening of a new drive-thru in Ireland demonstrated the company’s commitment to the Irish market.

“McDonald’s is very pleased to deliver 70 new jobs for north Dublin with the opening of our new Charlestown restaurant,” he said.

“The more jobs we create, the more Irish produce we need to source and buy for our restaurants, which is good news for our Irish suppliers and for the Irish economy.

“We look forward to continuing to grow our business through the rest of 2012 and beyond,” he said.

McDonald’s grew its total exports of Irish produce to €200m in 2011, up €40m since 2008.

McDonald’s exported €110m worth of Irish beef in 2011, up from €80m in 2008, with Ireland also supplying dairy produce and eggs to the McDonald’s system.

The latest McDonald’s in Charlestown has a capacity for 95 customers and represents an investment of €2m in north Dublin, with the majority of employees coming from the local area.

The Charlestown opening brings the total number of McDonald’s restaurants in Ireland to 82, with a workforce of 4,000.

McDonald’s Charlestown franchisee Morgan McStay, said the new restaurant was a boost for the north Dublin area.

“This is a great time of year for the restaurant to open and the reaction from customers has been very strong so far,” said Mr McStay.

“The opening of McDonald’s in Charlestown gives another boost to the local area,” the franchisee added.
