Kenmare on target for mine expansion

Kenmare Resources — the Irish-based mining company focused on south-east Africa — has reiterated it is on target to complete second-phase expansion of its Moma titanium mine in Mozambique by the end of this year.

The development will allow the company to “ramp-up” production levels by about 50% to 1.2m tonnes during 2013.

Production from Moma, which is Kenmare’s sole mining asset, has been slowed down due to adverse weather and clay build-ups, but the board is set to acquire new dredging equipment as a long-term solution to its production problems “in the relatively near future”.
