Chamber elects its first female vice-president
Gillian Keating was elected to the position yesterday at the chamber’s AGM.
Chamber president John Mullins was returned for his second 12-month term of office and congratulated Ms Keating on her election as vice-president at a reception in Cork’s Imperial Hotel.
Ms Keating is a partner in JW O’Donovan Solicitors, a corporate law firm in Cork.
Mr Mullins said he hoped Ms Keating would go on to be the first female president of Cork Chamber and be an inspiration for other women to take leadership roles.
“We sincerely wish Gillian the best in the year ahead as she prepares to take over the helm at the chamber. It is my hope that Gillian will be the first female president of Cork Chamber and I believe that it will send a message for more women in our region to take more leadership roles in business,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Mullins said Cork Airport was a priority for the chamber in the near future. He called for an independent local airport to be established to serve the region.
“An independent local airport company with a strong balance sheet and a sustainable debt level, free from the control of the DAA is the preferred outcome for the region and the chamber will be promoting a working group to work with the DAA on the ultimate separation of Cork Airport from the DAA,” he said.
