Job creation is crucial in helping our economy on the road to recovery but at the moment jobs are being destroyed at a higher rate than they are being created.

There is not much to be gained in creating 100,000 jobs by 2016 if a similar number of jobs will be destroyed over the same period. The priority should be sustainable jobs.

The Taoiseach seems to recognise this in saying that we must keep as many jobs as we can. The key is in examining job duration to identify the sectors in which jobs survive for longer periods of time.
