McDonald’s says that fourth-quarter profit increased 11% as cheaper menu items attracted customers in the US.

Net income increased to $1.38bn (€1.07bn), or $1.33 a share, from $1.24bn, or $1.16, a year earlier, the Illinois-based company said yesterday.

More than 3,700 people work for McDonald’s in 77 restaurants in Ireland.
