Dixons quarterly sales fall by 5%

CONSUMER electronics retail group Dixons Retail — which operates the Currys, PC World and Dixons Travel brands — has reported a 5% decline in like-for-like sales for the three months up to January 7.

Its European operations were hit by weak economic conditions — particularly in Greece and Italy — but core British and Irish operations also saw like-for-like sales drop 7%.

Nevertheless, group chief executive John Browett called it a “solid performance against a challenging backdrop”.
