Ardagh agrees to buy Boxal

ARDAGH, the Irish glass and bottling specialist, has further diversified within the international packaging market by agreeing to buy the Boxal group of companies for around €85 million.

Boxal comprises the European operations of the US-based Exal Corporation and is a leading international player in aluminium-based packaging, one of the fastest growth segments in the global packaging market.

To date, Ardagh’s only exposure to this segment of the market has been its aluminium facility in Australia. However, the Boxal acquisition will seriously enhance its production capacity and international presence, giving it state-of-the-art manufacturing plants in France and Holland and a number of leading clients such as L’Oreal, Coca-Cola, Heineken, Dove, Pantene and Nivea.
