Irish Vodafone users sent 1.46bn texts last quarter
Irish customers sent an average of 220 texts in the three months to the end of September compared with 111 on average across Europe.
The average revenue per user at the mobile operator was down 0.9%, however, to €32.60, according to the latest Vodafone Ireland interim management statement.
Vodafone Ireland has 2.22 million mobile customers. It increased its total customer base increased by almost 17,000 customers in the quarter to 2.45m.
Minutes of use per customer grew 0.6% quarter-on-quarter to 268 minutes, compared to a European average of 179.
The company said it has seen a fivefold increase in pay as you go data usage in the last 18 months, largely due to more smartphone usage.
On a group level, Vodafone increased its full-year profit outlook thanks to strong growth in emerging markets and robust trading in northern Europe. The company reported growth in India and Turkey as well as solid performances in Germany, Britain and the Netherlands.
Analyst at Espirito Santo, Will Draper said: “They’re really great numbers. The revenue is strong in a quarter that we expected to be the weakest in the year.
“The fading impact of (regulatory cuts) from now onwards, in Germany especially, give us optimism that service revenue growth and EBITDA margin willimprove further in the second half.”
The company posted first-half revenue up 4.1% to £23.5 billion (€27.4bn) and core earnings up 2.3% to £7.5bn.
