SALES at the Irish division of pensions specialist Standard Life soared by 30% in the first nine months of this year — on a like-for-like basis — to £465 million (€540m).

Head of marketing at Standard Life Ireland, Brendan Barr, said that the good showing was pleasing, given the general difficult trading conditions in the Irish marketplace.

“Customers are attracted to what they see as a strong, secure brand, which provides them with a sense of security at times of uncertainty. The choice and flexibility of our products and our relative investment performance remains strong against the competition,” he said.
