Confidence rises in Irish economy

Dublin: A leading strategist at the wealth management arm of Barclays Bank has suggested that the Irish economy could be in a better position than many people believe, and has urged investor calmness in response to the recent turbulence in the equity markets.

Speaking in Dublin, at the Barclays Wealth Investment Strategy Seminar, over the weekend, Kevin Gardiner, Barclays Wealth’s global head of investment strategy, said: “While Ireland is not out of the woods yet, its export-focused economy has been stabilising, while the scale of the fall in payrolls testifies to continued labour market flexibility — as does continuing foreign direct investment in several successful industrial clusters.”
