Talk Talk facing EU probe

THE British-based call centre, Talk Talk, could be facing an investigation by the EU Commission over its controversial decision to shut down its Irish operations in Waterford in the space of 30 days.

The EU commissioner for employment, Laszlo Andor, told the European Parliament in Strasbourg that the commission would examine the planned closure of Talk Talk’s centre, which will result in 575 job losses.

In reply to a question from Labour MEP Phil Prendergast, Mr Andor said he would investigate whether Talk Talk was in breach of EU directives over the manner in which it announced the closure of its Waterford base.
