Aluminium plant returns to profit

THE largest alumina refinery in Europe, RUSAL Aughinish, last year returned to profit after revenues almost doubled to $496.9 million (€344.9m).

Accounts filed to the Companies’ Office by Limerick Refinery Alumina Ltd and subsidiaries, show the company recorded a pre-tax profit of $24.5m in the 12 months to the end of December last after recording a loss of $26.3m in 2009.

The principal activity of the company, located on the Shannon estuary, is the production and sale of alumina.
