IRISH exploration company, Ormonde Mining has applied to the mining authorities in Spain for the re-activation of the La Zarza copper mine in the south of the country.

The Navan-headquartered company’s main asset is the Barruecopardo tungsten mine in western Spain, but La Zarza represents a significant copper and gold joint venture between it and Chilean mining giant, Antofagasta.

Results from a recent analysis of the site — conducted by both partners — coupled with a rise in global copper prices has prompted the move for a re-opening of the concession.
