Organisers are reluctant to release details too soon of the line-up of speakers, which previously included Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, one of the YouTube founders, Chad Hurley and Niklas Zennstrom, who set up Skype.
It is expected someone “very close to Facebook from the start” will speak at the event in October. This could likely be Eduardo Saverin, a co-founder of Facebook. Yesterday, it was announced that some of China and India’s top tech entrepreneurs, chief executives and investors will take part in the October Web Summit.
Organiser of the event, Paddy Cosgrave, said: “China and India are the largest and the most significant growth markets in the world for Irish companies and for the first time a select group of the most influential entrepreneurs and investors will touch down in Ireland.
“That they are coming to Ireland is significant in itself, but what is far more significant is the fact that some of them will engage the Irish business community at the Dublin Web Summit,” he said.
The first investor to be announced is Peng T Ong, co-founder of Match.com.
Peng, who is part of GSR Ventures, is one of the most influential Asian- based investors.
Richard Liu, chairman and head of 360Buy.com, known as ‘the Amazon of China’, is the first chief executive to be announced. Liu will be joined by 150 technology entrepreneurs, chief executives and investors travelling to Ireland to attend a private event known as F.ounders.
“With 150 of the world’s leading tech entrepre- neurs, CEOs and investors in Dublin, it provides a wonderful opportunity for some of the leading names to take time out from F.ounders to go and speak to the Irish business community at the Dublin Web Summit. Many have already agreed and we will announce the first speakers at the Dublin Web Summit in the coming weeks,” said Mr Cosgrave.
“Ireland has been hugely successful in securing investment from Silicon Valley-based companies in the past. We have built strong links over a number of decades. The next big challenge, however, is to build those links with Asia, in particular with China and India.”
The will take place in the RDS, from October 27-28.
