Postal services firm launches third expansion initiative

INDEPENDENT postal services company, CityPOST has announced its third major expansion initiative in the space of a month, with its acquisition of the Cork-based company Document Express Postal Service (DEPS) for an undisclosed sum.

This move follows on from CityPOST’s acquisition, last month, of Publicity Mailing — one of the largest direct mail distribution companies in the country — and the announcement of the addition of another 180 jobs over the next 18 months.

Currently, City POST — which markets itself as a low-cost alternative to An Post — is the largest independent postal services company in Ireland with a staff of 188, up from 20 10 years ago.

It has won a number of high-profile contracts within the last six months and also has an overseas operation in Portugal, where it employs another 120 people and has picked up a three-year contract for the addressed delivery of the Portuguese telephone directory for the entire country and its islands.

Explaining the DEPS move, CityPOST’s managing director, Ian Glass, said that the Cork firm comes with an established reputation as a preferred supplier for quality and value, and meets CityPOST’s criteria for growing its business in the Munster region.

“Cork and Limerick, in particular, are key target areas for us in terms of both investment of infrastructure and employment. This agreement will significantly enhance our network and delivery capability in Munster at a time of strategic growth for the company,” Mr Glass added.

The company said the acquisition will enhance its low-cost offering and improve its existing national network structure.
