IRELAND should try to use the internet to make Irish businesses more global, said Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt who spoke in Dublin yesterday.

While Ireland continued to do well as a location for Foreign Direct Investment much needed to be done by SME companies to drive growth via the internet, he said.

Use of the internet provides a “global product opportunity” for any and all businesses in today’s changed world and “my observation is that Irish businesses are somewhat behind “especially the small medium sized business getting on line compared to where they should be.”
