TESCO is struggling in Ireland with sales falling 3.9% over the last four months.

The supermarket, which is the largest in the Irish and British markets, said that things are improving in Britain but it warned that high fuel costs are continuing to discourage consumer spending.

Tesco posted a 0.1% drop in same-store sales excluding fuel and VAT in the 13 weeks to May 28, up from a 0.7% fall in the previous quarter. Total British sales including fuel and VAT were up 7%.
