O2 IRELAND saw its total mobile phone customer base dip slightly during the first quarter of 2011, but still managed to boost its share in the billpay market.

The company’s total Irish mobile customer base stood at 1.68 million people at the end of March; down from just under 1.7 million at the end of the preceding quarter.

O2/Telefonica Ireland’s chief financial officer Paul Whelan said: “There was little sign of recovery in the Irish economy in the first quarter of this year, with consumer confidence remaining very low.
