Chambers calls for action on education

CHAMBERS IRELAND wants the Government to increase its focus on innovation, design and creativity in education to deliver the skills to protect future economic competitiveness.

Chambers Ireland deputy chief executive, Sean Murphy, said Ireland’s education system had fallen behind the international competition.

He cited the results of the 2010 OECD/PISA Survey which show that Irish reading levels slipped from fifth place in 2000 to 17th place, the sharpest decline among 39 countries surveyed.
