MILK which retails for less than 75c per litre is being sold below its cost price and is putting jobs at risk, according to the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA).

IFA national liquid milk committee chairman, Padraig Mulligan, said dairies and supermarkets must call a halt to their reckless pricing behaviour or render the entire Republic of Ireland liquid milk market uneconomic and unsustainable.

Mr Mulligan said: “Our analysis in IFA suggests that the current 75c/l private label retail price point is the strict minimum return needed in the retail chain to remunerate all the links, including milk producers.
