IRISH banks have been lashed for failing to support agriculture — “the best growth story in the Irish economy” — by Irish Dairy Board chief executive Kevin Lane.

The Irish Dairy Board (IDB) said record sales of its internationally known Kerrygold brand helped to push up total sales for last year to €1.9bn.

Operating profits for the year fell sharply in 2010 to €26.9m, driven mainly by reduced profits in its US distribution business.
