Workshop for young farmers to focus on milk production quotas

A WORKSHOP at Teagasc, Moorepark next Wednesday will be the first step towards acquiring 200,000 litres of milk quota each for a group of young entrants to the dairy industry.

Workshop for young farmers to focus on milk production quotas

Since it was introduced in 2010, the entrant milk quota scheme has helped up to 50 young farmers set up in milk production.

The quota is allocated for free to successful applicants (it would cost up to €10,000 if available in the national Milk Quota Trading Scheme).

However, certain conditions are attached to production of the milk — including submission of annual financial statements to the Department of Agriculture.

Successful applicants must have facilities for production and satisfy educational and age requirements (see http://bit.ly/fRmsgI for more). To register for next week’s workshop, contact Niamh Allen on 025-42362.

The deadline for receipt of applications and business plans is April 8.

Applicants’ circumstances and potential viability as dairy farmers will be independently assessed.
