Livestock feed firm’s latest product makes an impression in Washington

A LIVESTOCK feed technology specialist firm received a warm reception at a promotional event for its nutrition boosting Gain Plan product at a high-profile event in Washington.

Special guest Taoiseach Enda Kenny and senior US agri-business figures were impressed by Gain Plan, an alliance programme designed to speed up adoption of a transformative new dairy and cattle-feeding model that optimises physical nutrition to boost milk and beef production.

Company executive chairman Gerard Keenan said: “At Keenan, we’re all about improving economic sustainability for farmers and other agri commodity stakeholders.”

Already deployed on farms across Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the programme has delivered improved margins on 80% of the farms by increasing feed conversion efficiency.

Farms using Gain Plan have also shown a 30% improvement in overall productivity. Other benefits include better animal health, a longer life, along with a significant reduction in methane (greenhouse gas) emissions.

The Keenan event was organised in collaboration with Enterprise Ireland. The Gain Plan model uses a blend of nutrition and management protocols, along with Keenan’s advanced feeder technology to exploit the nutritional value of animal feed.

Central to the model is Keenan’s patented Mech-fiber feeder which is built to deliver a customised, defined, quantifiable and predictable ration structure for any herd in any conditions under any management.

Enterprise Ireland chairman Hugh Cooney said: “Ireland is the world’s fourth largest exporter of beef and Keenan is combining its livestock knowledge with product expertise and sophisticated software to deliver a truly different feed solution that carries compelling bottom-line and sustainability benefits.”
