Argos’ 40th store brings 30 jobs

Miss Tipperary, Aisling Bourke, will officially launch the new outlet at the Showgrounds Shopping Centre close to Clonmel’s town centre.

The opening comes 15 years after Argos first ventured into the Irish market and 30 employees have been recruited following an application process which saw 1,500 hopefuls aiming for the positions.

A number of outlets at the Showgrounds centre — which was officially opened by then-taoiseach Brian Cowen in August of 2008 — are being filled this month, with branches of Edinburgh Woollen Mills and Luigi’s Fish and Chips also launched.

The centre is already home to Marks & Spencer, Jack and Jones, No Name, Pamela Scott and Chapter One among other shops.

Argos spokesperson Rachel Dealey said the chain was “excited” to open its 40th store.

“After 15 years in Ireland we hope we can continue to thrive and evolve,” she said.
