UPC sees 10% hike in subscribers

UPC Ireland — the multi-disciplined communications company, formerly trading under the Chorus/NTL brands — has reported a 10% increase in total subscriber numbers for 2010.

That means that 785,500 people are using its digital television, broadband Internet and telephone services. Its digital television subscriber base was up by 9%, its telephone customer base rose by 60% and its broadband customers numbers were up by 35% to 199,200. UPC Ireland chief financial officer, Carol Grennan, said that the firm finished the year strongly and plans to further enhance its broadband leadership status in 2011.

Meanwhile, UPC’s parent company — the Colorado-based Liberty Global — saw operating profit increase by 52%, to $1.5 billion last year.
