Engineering bosses upbeat on recovery

Dublin: More than half of engineering chief executives believe a sustainable economic recovery will happen by 2013, according to research carried out by Ipsos MRBI. Just over a quarter believe that this will happen in 2012.

Reducing barriers to business such as high local rates, excessive commercial rents and Ireland’s poor quality of broadband will go a long way to helping create jobs in Ireland, according to John Power, director general of Engineers Ireland, who was speaking as Engineers Week 2011 draws to a close.

Earlier this week it was found that 78% of engineers surveyed believe Ireland is not doing enough to boost innovation and support economic recovery.
