CORK-based specialist technology company Avego is to double staff numbers at its head office as part of an ongoing expansion drive.

Tech firm Avego to create 35 jobs

The Kinsale-headquartered company, which is a global provider of software and hardware used in the making of passenger transport, is set to announce 35 jobs at its headquarters today, doubling its Kinsale workforce to 70 over the next three years, as it embarks on a major research and development (R&D) investment programme.

Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Minister Batt O’Keeffe — who will formally announce the Enterprise Ireland-supported R&D expansion measures — said that Avego is the kind of “outward-looking, export-driven firm that the Government is anxious to help grow and generate jobs at home”.

The minister added that Avego has shown how a focused international growth strategy can deliver new export business, and has reinforced its international reputation as a leading supplier in its field.

The privately owned company, formed just under four years ago, employs around 50 worldwide and also has offices in Dublin, China, Washington DC and San Jose.

“We have seen, in this period of global economic uncertainty, that firms that invest in research and development and produce products more competitively are the same firms that held or increased market share and jobs,” the minister stated.

“Clearly, the firm’s focus on innovation and service capacity is helping it to absorb more business from a global client base in a competitive market,” he added.

Avego’s product range is aimed at improving the efficiency of passenger transport and offers services (through things like GPS, web and mobile technologies), such as making seat capacity known and available to passengers and providing convenient ticket purchasing options.

Avego’s clientele includes London Transport and the European Space Agency.
