FARMERS can avail of savings of up to 14% on their farm and household electricity costs under a new deal agreed between the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) and Bord Gáis.

The IFA estimates farm families who have opted to switch to the IFA Member Services/Bord Gáis partnership deal will save up to €10 million on their collective electricity costs this year.

The IFA says members have been switching in large numbers to take advantage of the exclusive deal.

“Given the current economic climate, farmers need to seriously reduce their input costs and this electricity deal providesa real opportunity to doso,” IFA member services chairman, JJ Kavanagh, said.

“IFA members can now avail of hundreds of euros of savings on their electricity bills compared to regulated ESB unit rates.”
