VW operating profit more than tripled

Berlin: Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker, said its nine-month operating profit more than tripled, boosted by deliveries in China, and forecast growth in the currently quarter will slow.

Operating profit jumped to €4.8 billion from €1.5bn a year earlier, the Wolfsburg, Germany-based company said. Sales jumped 20% to €92.5bn. Net income rose more than sixfold to €4bn.

Volkswagen, which rose as much as 2.8% before the surprise earnings release, gave up its gains.
