Profits rise at leisure centre and restaurant

ONE of Dublin’s best-known restaurants and one of the capital’s most upmarket leisure centres both saw pre-tax profits increase last year.

However, Roly’s Bistro saw gross profit fall from €4 million to almost €3m in 2009. The restaurant in Ballsbridge, hailed as one of the country’s finest, however it saw pre-tax profit increase from €3,822 in 2008 to €268,791 in 2009.

Accounts for Wappinger Food Corporation, which trades as Roly’s Bistro, said the directors were satisfied with the company’s performance during the year.

The restaurant is owned by John and Angela O’Sullivan, Frank McHugh and chefs Colin O’Daly and Paul Cartwright.

The principal risks and uncertainties faced by the company relate to economic conditions in Ireland where the company’s earnings are generated.

The directors do not recommend the payment of a dividend.

Staff numbers fell from 96 to 94 but staff costs reduced significantly from €2.7m in 2008 to just over €2m in 2009.

Directors’ remuneration was down from €200,976 to €79,514. Meanwhile pre-tax profits at one of Ireland’s most exclusive leisure centres, David Lloyd Riverview soared to €34m last year, compared with €4.1m in the previous year.

Riverview club is part of the David Lloyd Leisure chain of fitness centres that were set up by the former British Davis Cup tennis coach.

No dividends were recommended for payment by the directors.
