House for sale – all offers over €1 considered

A DISGRUNTLED property owner is willing to consider offers of over €1 for his house.

Michael Dempsey, from Moylough, Co Galway, has spent two years trying to sell a bungalow that would have been worth €320,000 at the height of the boom.

But after the bottom fell out of the market and with no offers to buy or rent and fearing that he may have to board it up, the truck driver has decided to let it go for sale promising to consider all offers over €1.

“It’s a beautiful new house with four bedrooms on three-quarter acres of a site. It’s a shame no one is living in it and at this stage I just want to sell for whatever I can get,” he said.

The 48-year-old single man said that he built the house partly as a hobby and also to provide himself with income when he retires, but the economic collapse has destroyed that plan.

“Banks were giving out money all over the place. I went in at one stage looking for €25,000 and came out with €50,000. They ended up lending me 10 times my income but it seems they were doing that to everyone.

“But the loan was secured against the house I live in so I’m free to sell this house for any price. I have the deeds to it and am genuinely willing to consider any offer over €1 at this stage. I didn’t think things could get this bad in this country but they have and this highlights it,” he added.

He built the bungalow on a site at Gatestown between Moylough and Mountbellew in north Co Galway using direct labour and hates to see it unoccupied.
