Donal Óg pays tax penalty

CORK hurling goalkeeper Donal Óg Cusack is among the names on the latest list of those forced to pay a penalty to Revenue.

The high-profile sportsman had to pay Revenue €1,250 for failure to lodge VAT returns. Mr Cusack is listed on the list as a publican and an off-licence operator.

Donegal County Council appeared on the tax defaulters list after it came to a total settlement of almost €800,000. An audit uncovered an under-declared €547,775 in PAYE and PRSI. Interest and penalties were €252,133.

One of the biggest settlements was from former company director Tadhg Feeney, from Thomastown, Co Kilkenny who came to a total settlement of just over €1.1m. Earlier this year Mr Feeney was sentenced to two years imprisonment for a series of tax offences.

The biggest settlement was by company director Oliver Scott, from Coolaness, Castleknock of €1.7m. Also on the list was Murray’s Rent-A-Car which settled for €1.56m.

Cork restaurant, Ruen Thai also makes an appearance with restaurateur Thongjan Latham making a settlement of €420,000.

Ernwell Trading, which owns the Murphys Rock pub in Cork, made a settlement of €85,000.

In the three months to 31 March 2010, there were 88 settlements accepted totalling €16.43 million.
