Markets struggle to make real gains

Markets struggled to make any worthwhile gains throughout the day. Worries about a slowing global economy and stresses in the eurozone have left investors apprehensive. The euro also lost further ground against the dollar.

Bank of Ireland dropped 4c to 73c. AIB declined 3c to 1.04. Irish Life & Permanent weakened 8c to 2.07, while FBD Holdings was 6c less at 6.95.
