AMERICAN online business network LinkedIn is opening an international headquarters in Dublin.

The network, which has more than 60 million professional members globally, will recruit senior personnel in marketing, sales, finance and customer service.

LinkedIn’s temporary Dublin office is based on Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, but the company has engaged estate agents to search for a longer-term premises.

LinkedIn’s offices in Mountain View, California, US, will continue to serve as corporate headquarters. Dublin will act as the centre for international growth.

LinkedIn Europe managing director Kevin Eyres said: “We now have more than 14 million members in Europe and 60 million worldwide. This is the right time for us to establish an international headquarters.

“Being based in Dublin gives us access to a highly skilled workforce and enables us to co-ordinate our business growth across Europe and beyond to deliver the best possible service to our members.”

IDA Ireland chief executive Barry O’Leary said: “We’re delighted with LinkedIn’s decision to locate its international headquarters in Ireland, which adds to the cluster of leading internet brands already here and which provides a strategic fit for the type of business Ireland is targeting.”

LinkedIn’s arrival was also welcomed by the American Chamber, which said that almost 750 jobs have been announced by US companies in Ireland since the beginning of the year. LinkedIn follows the likes of Google, Facebook, Ebay and PayPal into Dublin.

More than 100,000 people work for the Irish operations of US-owned companies.
