Union welcomes NIB redundancy strategy

THE trade union representing staff at the National Irish Bank has welcomed proposals from an independent mediator that the bank seek its required job cuts through voluntary redundancy.

NIB is cutting 100 staff from its retail network and 50 across other areas of the bank, including staff from its head office in Dublin.

The move is part of a wide-ranging restructuring that will see the Danish-owned financial institution close 25 of its 58 branches and move to cash-free banking.
