PayPal to create 100 Dublin jobs
This brings to 1,100 the number of people working at the company’s Blanchardstown site. PayPal had taken on 150 extra customer service staff at its European Centre of Excellence during 2009. It says these new jobs reflect real business growth.
As Dublin-based PayPal senior director Louise Phelan explains: “Our increased numbers are based on volume. We are looking for customer service personnel with strong English, plus Dutch, German, Spanish or French as a second language. We are trying to fill these roles right now, which represent a great opportunity for people with the right skills.”
Uwe Heddendorp, vice-president PayPal European operations, said: “It is a great testament to the team here in Dublin that we are able to announce the creation of further jobs at PayPal.”
Taoiseach Brian Cowen, who also opened the PayPal European Centre of Excellence last March, said: “I am delighted that PayPal continues to go from strength to strength. The creation of a further 100 jobs is great news both locally and nationally and it underlines Ireland’s continuing ability to attract high-calibre foreign direct investment.”
PayPal’s European Operation Centre opened in Dublin in 2003. Since then the number of staff has increased from just 25 to more than 1,100. In 2009, it announced an investment of €15m to support the development of a European Centre of Excellence in Blanchardstown.
