THE new Munster vice president of the Irish Farmers Association is Chris Hayes, a former chairman of the West Cork county IFA executive.

He was one of four regional vice presidents elected earlier this week after an intensive campaign for each of the posts. Padraic Divilly, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, was elected for Connacht, with Jer Bergin, Ballacolla, Co Laois, being successful in South Leinster, and John Waters, Killashee, Co Longford, taking the Ulster North Leinster position.

Protecting the family farm structure was one of the key issues on which Chris Hayes campaigned.
