Budget Travel sale on horizon
A letter was sent to 97,000 of Budget’s customers on Monday afternoon from the liquidator, Simon Coyle of Mazzars saying Mr Coyle had been approached by a number of parties who wish to purchase the business.
He said to customers that a potential purchaser would need access to and use of customers’ personal information in the same way as Budget has done in the past. “To ensure the continuity of service, I intend to disclose your personal information mentioned above to the eventual purchaser of Budget’s business,” the letter read.
The information Budget holds includes names, addresses, e-mails, phone numbers, ages and travel preferences.
Mr Coyle said if anybody objects to their information being disclosed they must contact him before 12 noon on January 4. He has already received 3,000 replies from people who do not want to have their personal details accessed.
Mr Coyle confirmed that the letter was genuine and was sent to customers so that there would be no issues with data protection. It is understood there is international and domestic interest in acquiring Budget’s operations.
Mr Coyle said his primary objective is to maximise the return for creditors. “There is every likelihood Budget Travel will be bought,” said Mr Coyle.
