IRISH Life & Permanent has started talks with the Government on a third banking force, it said in a statement yesterday.

Later at an EGM, shareholders voted to change the group’s structure, with 96% voting in favour.

“There is clear consensus now that we are likely to see significant consensus within the financial services industry in Ireland,” chairman Gillian Bowler told shareholders.
