Kerry Foods nets Bord Bia ‘Oscar’ for export success with Cheesestrings
It was one of seven “Oscar” winners at the Bord Bia Food and Drink Industry Awards at the Irish Management Conference Centre in Sandyford, Dublin.
Kerry Foods was presented with the Born Global award for outstanding achievement in the challenging export market.
Sales of Cheesetrings have reached €80 million a year with the prospect of reaching €100m in the near future. A staggering five million lunchboxes are produced in Charleville each year with 90% exported to Britain, France and Holland.
Denis O’Riordan, marketing director, Kerry Foods (Cheese), said the company was thrilled with the award which gives it the confidence to build on the success already achieved. The Consumer Focus award went to family-run Oakpark Foods, Cahir, Co Tipperary, part of the Brett Group, for innovation in relation to its bacon rib product launched earlier this year.
Glenisk, based in Killeigh, Co Offaly, won the Environmental Enrichment Award for promoting the principles of sustainability. Last year, it installed its own wind turbine, achieved an internal recycling rate of 97% and a 45% reduction in waste going to landfill.
ABC Nutrition, a human nutrition company based in Shannon, Co Clare, won the Thinking Big Award for small businesses demonstrating exceptional entrepreneurial spirit, matched by strong sales and marketing.
Glanbia’s branding of its fortified milk, Avonmore Super Milk, won the Spotlight award in recognition of the vital role that branding and marketing play in making a product a success.
The Home Grown award for adaptation and innovation in the light of changed economic circumstances was presented to C&C for Bulmers Pear Cider.
Highfield Nurseries, Oldtown, Co Dublin, and its Living Flavour fresh herbs, product won the New Perspectives Award.
