Cork networking event to boost trade

THE first networking event of its kind in this country is expected to provide a massive boost to the Cork economy as it attracts companies from the US, Slovakia and Romania.

Corkmeet 2009 will offer national and international companies the chance for pre-arranged one-to-one meetings as well as the chance to attend seminars and social events.

The event will take place from November 11 to 13 and 350 companies are expected to attend.

It is funded and organised by Trading Link Cork, a partnership between Cork County Council, Cork County Enterprise Boards, Cork City Enterprise Board and Cork Chamber. The Irish Examiner is the media partner of the event.

Chief executive of the South Cork Enterprise Board, Sean O’Sullivan said: “We have firsthand experience of how successful these types of events have worked for businesses overseas and we believe that the decision to host Corkmeet 2009 will help bringing the experience home to the Cork business community.”

Organisers would not reveal which companies are interested in attending, but said there will be firms present from Slovakia, Romania, Poland, Wales, France and the US.

Minister for Trade and Commerce Billy Kelleher said: “At a time when itappears more difficult than ever to trade, it is opportune that a platform is being laid down to support business. Not only will Cork business have the opportunity to trade among themselves, but also with businesses throughout Ireland, along with offering international leads that may foster long-term benefits,” he said.
