Eight months after fallout Anglo Irish appoints new chief executive

Mr Aynsley’s appointment had been speculated on towards the end of last week, but was formally confirmed yesterday. He technically replaces David Drumm, who resigned last December in the fallout from the high profile directors’ loans scandal at the now-nationalised bank.

Chairman Donal O’Connor came in on an executive basis, temporarily heading the business until a permanent chief executive was found. Mr O’Connor will revert to his role as non-executive chairman.
