Credit unions to take on the banks

THE credit union movement is gearing up to take on the banks by providing a range of new services including current accounts, debit cards and credit cards.

These services are expected to be made viable in the next two to three years, chief executive, Irish League of Credit Unions, Kieran Brennan, said yesterday.

The decision follows a major endorsement of the movement in a new all-Ireland survey carried out on behalf of the Irish League of Credit Unions.
