Limerick Leader seeks redundancies among journalists
The owners of the newspaper, Johnston Press, last week said it was closing down the pre-press section at the Limerick Leader which employs 19 workers. Talks of a redundancy package are ongoing and the workers are very dissatisfied at the offer of three weeks’ pay per year of service on offer.
Following yesterday’s announcement, members of the National Union of Journalists met to decide on their response.
It is believed that the redundancy package for journalists will be in line with that decided on with the pre-press workers.
The journalists work in both the editorial and photographic departments.
Elsewhere, Independent News & Media (INM) yesterday announced that it has completed the sale of its 18.07% stake in gaming website, Cashcade for approximately €15.3m.
This follows the recent sale of around a third of its stake in Indian media group, JPL and is likely to be followed closely by the sale of its German-based price comparison website, Verivox and its South African outdoor ad business, INM Outdoor.
