Limerick Leader seeks redundancies among journalists

THE Limerick Leader yesterday announced that it was seeking 3.5 redundancies from the 28 journalists on the newspaper.

The owners of the newspaper, Johnston Press, last week said it was closing down the pre-press section at the Limerick Leader which employs 19 workers. Talks of a redundancy package are ongoing and the workers are very dissatisfied at the offer of three weeks’ pay per year of service on offer.

Following yesterday’s announcement, members of the National Union of Journalists met to decide on their response.
