Woulfe is new Dairygold chief
DAIRYGOLD yesterday announced the appointment of dairy science graduate Jim Woulfe as its new chief executive.
Mr Woulfe, 49, has been head of Dairygold’s agri division since 2002. Previous to that he held senior roles as head of human resources and manager of milk supplies at the co-op.
Mr Woulfe is regarded as a “safe pair of hands” by industry sources and his appointment, against some tough competition, comes as no surprise.
A native of Ardagh, Co Limerick and a UCC graduate, he joined Ballyclough’s milk processing division in 1979.
Dairygold chairman Vincent Buckley said the board was pleased to announce Mr Woulfe’s appointment following a comprehensive process.
“In Jim’s previous roles, he has gained considerable experience and knowledge of all facets of the business, has proven business acumen, and a clear understanding of the workings and requirements of all stakeholders,” he said.
Mr Buckley said in times of unprecedented difficulty in the dairy industry, the board believes Mr Woulfe’s approach and stewardship of the co-operative will earn him the support of all interested parties.
Dairygold believes the appointment will also generate enthusiasm to face the challenges ahead so that the society is well positioned to meet the expectations of its farmer suppliers and members.
Mr Woulfe said he was greatly honoured to be appointed as chief executive of Dairygold, Ireland’s largest farmer-owned co-operative.
“I recognise and understand the enormity of the challenges facing farmer members, the society and the dairy industry.
“I look forward to working closely with the board, various committees, the Dairygold management team and staff in addressing the critical issues facing the business and maximising the society’s future potential,” he said.
The process of appointing a new chief executive to succeed the departed Jerry Henchy took several months to complete.
