A former senior researcher at the ESRI and a Central Bank economist, McCoy has been with IBEC for the past four years. The promotion, he said, was a great honour. “This is a daunting challenge as Ireland is coming through what has been among its most turbulent times since the foundation of the state.

“It is more important than ever that the membership of this great organisation has its voice heard. I will do all in my power to ensure that every member is listened to and that the outstanding talent within the IBEC staff are fully harnessed to serve the needs of all these members,” he said. “We need now a collaborative effort across our society to restore a competitive edge to deliver sustainable work and prosperity for all our people. I am confident that the business community, working with other stakeholders, will help lead Ireland onto a responsible recovery path,” he added. IBEC’s president Tom Noonan added: “IBEC has been very fortunate in the calibre of distinguished people from whom to select a new director general.
