70 jobs axed at Kerry foods plant

The company is to consolidate the work at the site to three other facilities in Shillelagh, Co Wicklow, Finglas and Durham in England.

The Glenealy site had been a feeder location for operations in Finglas.

The company blamed a decline in the demand for deli meats and said its British export market had been affected by the depreciation in sterling.

The Glenealy factory will close at the end of September.

A spokesman said there will be opportunity for up to 20 staff to relocate to another of its facilities in Ballymount in Dublin.

It said it would be putting an outplacement training service for the rest of the staff.
