CATTLE and sheep importers in the North have been urged not to put their farms and the industry in jeopardy by importing livestock from bluetongue affected areas.

Michelle Gildernew, agriculture and rural development minister in the North’s executive, issued the plea in an open letter to the importers.

She pointed out that the island remains free from bluetongue and that everyone has an obligation to do everything they can to maintain that freedom.
