THE ISEQ index finished up 30.47 points at 2,421.60.

Irish market performs strongly

Gains by the American markets overnight buoyed by JP Morgan’s results beating analysts’ expectations helped the Irish and European markets perform strongly throughout the day.

In the financial sector, the main banks were weak all day. AIB was down 8c at 86c, Bank of Ireland gave up 9c to 66c, Irish Life & Permanent fell back 9c to €2.15, while insurance group FBD shed 2c to close at €6.47.
